So, after many a week of deliberation and indecision we have decided to keep our 51 plate Disco 2 TD5. Options were D3, 110 or Nissan Patrol.

The D2 has been part of the family for 4 years now and despite some 'proactive maintenance' shall we call it, it has been a great car... i just fancied something newer.
So when i return from a business trip at the end of the month i'll be giving it a full service, including gear box oil, diffs etc and freshen her up.

Anything i should do to blow the cobwebs out? K&N air filter? New hoses etc?

Suggestions welcome

Jim

If the turbo hoses aren't new then possibly get some silicone replacement ones. Get rid of the EGR vavle whilst you're at it & fit a K&N (if only so you don't have to replace it after each service).

Good plan. I stupidly sold my 51 plate D2 last June and after searching for a D3 without any joy I bought an XC90. Hated it so much that as soon as the logbook arrived I sold it and bought a newer D2. Of course, I've spend many weekends since then laying underneath it on the driveway or hanging into the engine bay...........such fun!

Jim...in terms of blowing out the cobwebs, most guys start off with:

1) EGR Removal
2) De Cat Pipe
3) Sports Air Filter (K&N or other)
4) Remap

After that the skies the limit on what you want to spend. I see there's a new variable vane turbo available now but has to come with a larger intercooler, so getting into big money

Indeed it is my "new" one! I was lucky to find another straight bodied low mileage one (same rare colour as my last one too), but an ES this time and almost unmarked inside. Just a shame that the previous owner (or should I say the garage they used) didn't keep the maintenance up to the required standards................

Sorry for the late reply... Been sat on a plane forever.

Ok, so I'm going to do the hoses, coolant etc. that seems like a good move.
I removed the EGR a couple go years back so that's done, stripped out the pain in the arse air suspension too.

Do you reckon a re-map is worth it? Car has done 105k

Have you had a go in a D3? very nice place to be.
I ran a D2 for 4 years, in fact Ive ran lots of discos over the years and have to say current new to me D3 is by far the nicest so far.

I have yes, I did really like it too but I'm just nervous about the reliability side of things.
I was originally leaning towards a Defender 110 inch as there is less to worry about but then the luxury side of things suffer.
I'd be looking at a basic 'S' spec D3 I reckon, without the air suspension... One of the best things I did was strip that out of my D2
