I have absolutely no idea how my motor ran when I bought it. A top end rebuild revealed 1 plug cross threaded, both exhaust manifolds blowing each on two cylinders, inlet manifold leaking, injectors at 45% flow rate, 6 were leaking, fuel pressure regulator on it's last legs, valves were gummed up, the cats had collapsed and were binned, 1 had a very large jubilee clip holding it together, but today was the icing on the cake. Off came the rest of the exhaust for (ahem) modification, the contents spilled onto the floor and yes it is the contents of one catalytic converter you can see in the photograph on the mats and the slug trail between the middle box and the mats. Rover V8s are unbelievably robust engines, god I love 'em.
