De-Catting your Rangey?? Any Thoughts

Anybody out there thought about just removing the Cat first instead of chipping it. The reason I ask is my sister-in-law had a Disco 300tdi which was dead slow so she removed the cat and she said it transformed the pull of it. And you can sell it back for scrap after! Any ideas anyone?

I smashed all the innards out of the cat on a Jeep Cherokee. Performance and fuel economy improved. I had to get a new one though when the MOT was due.

The only thing I'm not sure about is whether or not any sensors need sorting. The MOT situation is something I'm yet to encounter with this vehicle.

as far as i know the only problem is in america where they have 4 oxysensors on the V8's 2 before the cats and 2 after to check on cat performance! australia have no oxysensors and we have just the 2 before the cats.
im going to remove mine soon, very soon and as i have also removed the rear box it should sound great, got a K+N induction kit coming so hopefully i should gain another 25-30 hp, will take it over 250.
AND no problem for me with mot as its lpg and has a non cat test!!

So is this your DSE you intend to De-cat ?

It isn't a cat on a 300 tdi, it's a smog filter, removing it helps by improving gas flow.

does any one know if you can buy a replacement part with out the cat that way for an mot we would just have to swap them over

i would do it once a year if that was the case

I'm sure there used to be a group called 'put the cat out' or summat very similar, who sold a kit consisting of a length of pipe of the correct length and ends to replace the cat and a 'black box' to fit in place of the sensor.

The above were not to be used at MOT time or around tree hugging hippies!! but make a huge difference to performance!
