Have noticed that at night when driving with my lights on, my digital display for my mileage doesnt light up, is this a simple backlight fault ? and is it easy to repair ?

should just be a bulb behind the mileometer display (assuming the lcd still shows okay during the day). Coinicidentally, one of the bulbs has gone on mine behind the speedo/rev counter which I'll try changing this weekend. If you haven't done it by then, I'll let you knwo how easy or hard it is.

Reet. Haynes gives it just a one spanner rating, so should be a piece of ****.
1) disconnect battery completely, wait 10 mins for airbag system to discharge
2) with steering column in lowest position, undo 4 screws holding outer cowl (2 in top above instruments, 1 under each switch pod)
3) move cowl forwards till multiplugs onto switches can be unplugged then unplug them, then remove surround
4) slacken and remove retaining screws securing the instrument panel upper cover in position and lift off the cover
5) remove 4 further screws securing the instrument panel to the fascia
6) disconnect the wiring pulgs from the instrument panel (noting their fitted positions to make refitting easier) and remove the instrument panel

Refitting is the reversal of removal.

The section on instrument panel lights warns to be very careful to match the rating of the old bulb to new, especially for air bag, ignition warning lights etc.

Should you wish to check section 12.11.9

But anyway, all of the above is without prejudice, at your own risk, no liability given or implied by the writer, blah blah, haven't a leg to stand on (maybe heather mills has a spare)

Mmm very funny! i like your sence of humour mate

Thanks for the advice, have changed dash bulbs on older fords plenty of times and seem to remember having to take the steering wheel off to get the clocks out, hoping its not as hard as that, Is it worth replacing the lot while its stripped down just incase another 1 goes a week later, which is just my luck :D

Because if I remember correctly his got a L-series? (correct me if I'm wrong)

Well remembered I have got a L- series , which are great engines, had a rover 600 with 1 in and it, had 170,000 miles on it when I sold it never broke down,

I remembered b'cause I got a L-series myself, only engine troubles so far was injectors which is probly normal for any doozel,
o yes and it's the same color as yours, assuming the one in the pic is yours.

Cheers

Dont have those spot lights any more, 1 got broken so fitted a set of smaller ones which are rubbish, leaving them on to cover the holes in the bumper until i get round to doing the facelift to it and get a colour coded bumper and new style headlights

Want to do the facelift as well, as soon as I payed all the dept I had to make to get mine running again. Had to replace CV's, bolljoints ,engine mounting, injector nozzles. O yes and the back pice off the exchause came of while driving.

But I still love it... :)
Must be crazy....
