Hi all,

Just wondering if somewone can help with this.

I just had my cylinder head changed and the fuel filter.

Car runs perfecy but when I start it the two circled lights (in the attatched picture) light up for about 5 seconds. There are absolutely no symptoms just disconcerting as have just spent a large amount of money on the car! Don't want any more problems cropping up!

Can anybody tell me what these mean?

Many thanks

Alastair

The left one is probably engine management light. Usually ok for it to briefly light on ignition and then go out. Not sure on the other

Might be worth getting some diagnostic equip plugged in and see what error codes come up

They should light up on ign afaik the left one deffo should and then go out if in sure have a decent code reader plugged in

Mine does the exact same. They light up along with the coil on ignition and go off after a few seconds. Always had since I got the 110. Assumed it was all normal. Not had any faults or problems in the 5 months.

The light on the left is the engine management light. The one on the right is the water sensor on your fuel filter.

Both should light up briefly (to check the warning lights themselves are working) then go out when you turn the ignition on. If either of them are staying on then I would be concerned but if it just for a few seconds when starting the Landy then it's fine.

Thanks for your help!

The one on the right stays on for about 5 seconds after starting the emgine and all others havr gone out. I only ask as this is new and have not seen it before.

My fuel filter has been changed for a new one.

Many thanks

It's normal for those lights to come on and then go off. My water sensor light goes off before 5 seconds though, but as long as it's going off and not stopping on I wouldn't worry to much about it. Possibly just one of the vagaries of a Defender.

My fuel filter light has just started staying on. Had the monster since last July. MOT due tomorrow service due March..
Was going to leave until then. What do the experts think?

The engine management light needs to be on for a few seconds to check its working as said. I am sure mine goes out on start up after preheat coil goes out. Certainly should be out when engine running, otherwise it is indeed a 'warning'......

rh one is the water in fuel filter warning, as said - simply open up the fuel filter 'cage' under the rear o/s wheel arch, undo the wiring connector (so it doesn't twist) and unscrew the sensor on the bottom of the filter and catch the fuel til it runs clear/for a few seconds..... Screw up good finger tight and reconnect the wiring.

Mine has an annoying intermittent light up, and its a new filter so I know its not water in the fuel.

I am seeing it flash on after the rear wiper has been operated, and I think other odd triggers. wondering if its a poor earth somewhere, but way too crappy out there to grovel around looking for it! A
