The other day it struck me that only half of the cluster display is being used, showing only the odometer or trip, are there other functions that are available to display with some work, or is the rest of the space taken up if the car is an automatic?

Automatic gear selection display for all regions and outside temperature for Canadian models.

I see, thanks.

I assume UK models don't come fitted with the relevant sensors and cables to enable ambient temperature reading? Whilst not a priority for me, I assume it's possible to retrofit one should I get the billion other jobs done.

Ignore that, I've just had a look and there is a workaround. I forget how basic the FL1 information supply is compared to my Golf which is of the same era, not that I really feel it's a worse experience - just funny how LR seemed so unbothered about offering stuff like temp, MPG etc.

It is possible to retrofit it.
There's an online guide somewhere.

The wiring and sensor are needed and the Ipack needs programming so it will read the sensor information.

This is why I took a different route for mine.

You have to remember that the Freelander is a design that came to life in the mid 90s, when British vehicles didn't have such advanced driver aids. Even ABS was optional when the Freelander was first sold. ;)
