Dash Lights

Another Minor [ I Hope ] problem is no dash lights, theres a couple come on when I turn the ignition then they all go out, none at all when driving in the dark, not even a back light.
Checked all fuses in the middle of the cab and all seem OK.
Is there a seperate fuse?

Some defenders have a switch that turns off the dashboard lights. It's in the bank of 3 around the right knee.

Read this somwhere else too, just tried and still no luck.
When ignition is turned the only 2 lights that come on are oil and battery then they go out when engine starts.
Indicator and main beam work when used also fuel light flashes now and then but thats about it, drove out earlier tonight and the whole dash was blacked out.

have another look. it's to the right of the wheel.. next to hazards? and it a 3 setting rocker. up middle and down.

up is interior light and down dash, or the other way.. middle being off.

you need your lights on for it to work.

Spot on Mate just tried again and the lights came on.

One thing i have noticed on morning there is no Glow plug light, should there be one there?

can't remember.. your's is a 2.5na with a semi bodged 200 stuck in it?

depends how it's wired up.. i wouldn't worry about it until winter

Be aware the glow plug symbol is actually a choke symbol. Some ignition switches have an intermediate position between ignition on and start, where you hold the key against a spring. This is the glow plug setting. You need to hold for the requried heat time (try 20-30 seconds when it's cold).

I'm having similar issues and will check behind the dash tomorrow, hopefully this will solve the issue with my 110.

The three switches you mention by the knee are just blanks (see picture). Haven't found the switch to control the lights but *did* find the missing hazard switch behind all the wiring and buried in the dash. Thought maybe the hazard switch was repurposed for the lights but no luck. Continuing to trace and check wires and connections, but open to other suggestions.

The plug in red is your dash/interior light. Purple should be live

Thanks, I’ll check the purple when I’m back in the garage.

Tracing the lines back from each of the bulb sockets for the gauge lights, they run into the black “socket” which was disconnected to remove the gauge cluster, so unsure where the white “socket” plays in or perhaps I’m missing a connector someplace.

I would also be checking the green wire with no connection (left side center)
Also the black wire with red connector (in the middle) not connected.

Yes, and some others... well....I've inquired of the previous owner but it was an import (export) from the UK and NENE has limited info available to share so I just move on and learn from here!

You mentioned the switch the kills the dash illumination lights --- I'm looking at the workshop manual, is this the switch referenced as #26 in the shop manual (for a 2.5 diesel)?
I located the hazard switch buried in the wiring behind the dash --- it works fine and I've pulled it out and mounted it in one of the three blanks by the driver's left knee.
