hiya

there is reports of dry joints on the back of the instrument panel, u can try unplugging it , using some electrical cleaner and see if that works

if not will have to be sent away for reconditioning, does anything else go off plse or just the instrument panel,

first of all though see what ur battery voltage is with the engine off and engine running plse

hope that helps

Thanks for your reply to my problem, The problem is very intermittent yesterday it went off 3 times and so far today it has happend only once.
When you say check the voltage do mean at the battery?, It Seems as though it is only the cluster that stops working 1 time when it came back on the writing was all in Arabic but returned back to English when the ignition was turned of and then back on.

ur so welcome

indeed the main battery , if they get low can cause havoc on the system so always best to check that first with a multimeter , to see what the volts are , standing and then engine running , so many things go through the instrument panel

even a bad battery terminal , would just hate for u to send the instrument panel off if other things haven’t been checked first

Thanks I will check it

Checked the voltage and all seems ok. By sods law the display seems to be behaving its self and has not gone off in the last few days Many thanks for for your response to to my questions.

ur so welcome , out of curiosity, what were the voltages with the engine off and then running plse

always the way with the intermittent errors , hope it stays like that

noticed today that I am using a lot of coolant about 4 ltr in the last month any ideas? cant see any leaks could it be water pump or head gasket? heater has not worked for quit sometime.

On my hong kong special voltage gauge it showed just under 12 v engine off and about 13v when running

thks, alas that’s way to low , battery should be standing 12.6 Vdc and engine running around 14.5 Vdc

u can get one of those plug in volt meters which will save u having to lift the bonnet all the time

if the battery is older than 5 x years might req replacing

the EGRs are water cooled, maybe ur loosing the water there

that does sound alot to loose , plus if ur heater isn’t working it could be an air lock, blocked or leaking , as if there’s a hole Ur carpets would get wet, have a good look round when it’s all topped up, bled snd up to temperature

hope that helps a little as put coolant process below

Check those voltages again with a second meter, if they are genuine readings then you have a battery and/or alternator problem.

D3s don't tolerate bad batteries, you can get all kind of faults

hiya

indeed, just mentioned as well that they were way to low , amazing how a low battery will normally make the instrument panel light up like a xmas tree

my first battery was an EA1000 and was crap , now gone over to a Yuasa , considerably better and have mine plugged in all the time on the driveway via the towing socket

Also fitted some gauges in mine , consisting of 2 x volt meters for each battery , cabin temperature and some charging ports

I changed my yuasa which was toasted for a hankook last year. The hankook has been great so far.

The old battery was reading 11.6 standing and was only just managing to start the disco, was getting the usual engine system fault, park brake fault and special programs not available during cranking due to the voltage drop.

there good batteries , indeed give it a charge and then recheck after a few hours from coming off the charger , just allows the battery to settle abit before rechecking

can then use a multimeter or a plug in that goes into ur cig lighter

as I don’t use mine every day that’s why mine is plugged in all the time via the towing socket , which keeps my batteries topped up, I just fitted a charging point on the front of the house , drilled through the wall and have my charger plugged in the hallway , then made up my own lead , also fitted a fuse box inside the boots side locker to ensure the lead was all fused properly

These are the plug in meters if u want to monitor ur battery while driving

this one has a temperature meter as well

of the simple ones

Have also got a module which is fitted to the battery and can be checked on ur iPhone via Bluetooth, app is free and u can check ur crank voltage as well , alas the bluetooth range isn’t very good , around 20 feet but as mine is on the drive can get a reading whilst sitting down in my front room, yeh i know, I need to get out more, lol

hope it help

Plus almost forget , as the battery gets lower in voltage it will start to shut off systems, alas not the instrument panel but other things

fingers crossed after you’ve charged ur battery up it may just also cure the instrument panel issue
