Can anyone confirm this one. . .got a message from a td4 owner and he had a go faster [gismo fitted] or cr box to give it the correct name, however for some reason he pulled the connections from the dreaded M A F sensor. . . and test drove it ,said it was unbelievably fast,in fact he said it twas almost scary, lot of smoke though and didn't know if it would damage the engine long term, any one know anything on this subject. . .Ming

I believe this run alongs the same lines as putting a resisitor in series with the air flow meter.
All you are trying to do is fool the engine into thinking there is more air going in and hence it will put more fuel in, but because you are not it will make you go faster as a result of running rich.

In a turbo this very bad because the unburnt fuel can re-ignite in the turbo and damage it, you will also kill your CAT by putting fuel through it.

These performance enhancement are for sale on e-bay, but avoid. If you more easy power get it chipped properly.

Was this what you were reffering to?

Hi Ming,

This kind of boxes are only (as Treev150 said) fooling the computer by giving incorrect values to have more fuel injected. On all forums you can read it is better to have a genuine chiptuning done (as I did back in october 2001, the chip was taken out -> reprogrammed -> back in again, and the results are fantastic) taken off the MAF plug does only do a reset of the values I believe, but if the MAF is gone it will always stay in 'limp home' mode I think. I know in Holland some guys are trying to take the MAF out all together (also as Treev150 said) and replaced it by a resistor of a certain value, this seems to work but as the values remain the same all the time there will be no "fine injection" involved as far as I can see it.
To keep your 'noose' clean you can also block a certain vacuum pipe though.;)
