Damaged turbo

That is cruel luck, for you and neglectful of the people who fitted it, just curious but has it been working for 8 months after the turbo was fitted? Seems strange the foreign object hung around in the intake for so long.
I would be tempted to take out the filter box and intake pipe and double check them myself just to be certain.

Turbo Technics are refurbishing the turbo. I don't think it is part of a Turbo blade, just looks the wrong shape.

It has been working but steadily making more noise.
Whilst the Turbo is away for repair I have taken the air box apart and cleaned it, renewing jubilee clips as required.
I have renewed the air filter to turbo pipe, turbo oil feed pipe, turbo oil return pipe, and oil breather pipe.
I have performed an oil change and oil filter of course.
The air filter was renewed only a couple of weeks ago...

That's weird. After taking everything apart you obviously haven't found where the metal came from otherwise you would have said. The damage looks identical in both cases. Maybe the metal was flung back up the intake pipe and stuck in some oil, to become loose again after the recon one was fitted. But where did the metal come from initially? As I say, weird.

This is better, fitting new turbo tonight, with new pipes, oil and filter change, air box has been cleaned out and air filter has recently been changed...

I had it refurbished, it's not a new turbo.

I've replaced it. But I did blow an air line through the old one, nothing came out.

I also replaced the air box to turbo pipe, although it is large and easy to inspect and clean the old one had slight damage where the jubilee clip held it onto the turbo.

The turbo refirb company recommends that you change the oil feed pipe and as that only left the oil return pipe I decided to change that too.

An oil & filter change is also recommend, so that was done...
