Hello,

I have a 2005 D90 TD5

The issues is as follows.

Up until this last week no issues at all. The last couple of days when I start her up there is a rough idle, (not every time but occurs now and before would always run smooth) more than usual black smoke until I rev a little. After I let the engine warm up it will sometimes work fine and then more an more frequently will stall even at idle. The engine light will illuminate and its like someone turned the key off.

After a stall, I can start it up immediately at times and then others times when this issues arises the engine will turn over a bit before starting and way more than usual amounts of black smoke along with rough idles occurs. After a 10 seconds it smooths out and i'm on the way. Then driving down the road, stalls and I must restart. I have noticed when it happens at very low speeds it makes a "cough" or the sound of trapped air blowing out the exhaust with a puff of smoke and the stalls.

I have bran new MAF, new fuel regulator, all filters changed.

Any ideas where I should begin? Injector Wire loom? Cam sensor? Relays under drivers Seat? Fuel pump? Intercooler hoses are new from Allisport (3 months old) and I do have a the larger intercooler with a remapped ECU. Ecu plugs seem fine, no oil.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Jimmie

Well, I have ordered a new CPS sensor. I decided to investigate more. About a month ago I installed a new fuel regulator. It appears the new hose that was included was malfunctioning and causing air to enter the diesel cooler. I replaced with a spare we had in the shop and after multiple purges it seems to be ok on the drive home.

Oddly enough, I had to replace a shuttle valve not long ago and the 3 amigos were still present until I purged the fuel. Not sure why purging the fuel turned off the 3 amigos?? I have several toyota Land Cruisers so these D90's are interesting to say the least when working on them. Why purging fuel turns off the 3 amigos...maybe someone knows or is just dumb luck.
