Hello all,
I would be very grateful for any assistance that anyone can give.
I have a D4, SDV6, 64 plate. 120k miles.
It is fully serviced (independents mainly) and had cambelts done this October.
On Boxing Day I had a ‘normal height only’ warning appear.
On Sunday, I was driving and after around 5 miles I started to feel a loss of power. There was also a vibrating noise coming from the engine.
I headed for home and just as I arrived, the ‘eco’ warning light came on. I lost power steering and braking assistance. As a pulled to a stop, the oil pressure light came on and the engine cut out.
It will start but now has ‘low battery’ warning and ‘gearbox fault’ along with ‘normal height only’ warning. The engine shakes in the bay and gives off a rattle that increases with revs.
I have scanned with an OBD tool and have the following codes:

U0405(68)
Raw code: C40568
ECU: Engine control unit
Status: Test failed (current drive cycle), Confirmed, Test failed since last DTC clear
OBDII: Invalid data received - cruise control module

============2==============
U0415(68)
Raw code: C41568
ECU: Engine control unit[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Confirmed, Test failed since last DTC clear
OBDII: Invalid data received - anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module

============3==============
U0402(00)
Raw code: C40200
ECU: Engine control unit
Status: Test failed, Test failed (current drive cycle), Pending, Confirmed, Test failed since last DTC clear
OBDII: Invalid data received - transmission control module (TCM)

============4==============
P0A0F(00)
Raw code: 0A0F00
ECU: Engine control unit[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Test failed since last DTC clear
OBDII: Hybrid drive system - engine failed to start

============5==============
P0A0F(71)
Raw code: 0A0F71
ECU: Engine control unit[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Test failed since last DTC clear
OBDII: Hybrid drive system - engine failed to start

============6==============
P0488(73)
Raw code: 048873
ECU: Engine control unit[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Test failed since last DTC clear
OBDII: Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, throttle position control - range/performance problem

It feels like this must be total engine failure. I can’t get it in to be seen for several weeks.

Can anyone offer any insight?
Thanks very much.

I guess the first place to start would be the Battery, they need to be in tip top condition on these beasts otherwise they throw a fit.
Check it and all connections.
Then work from there.

Thanks everyone for your help so far. Spun bearings / snapped crank is my big concern, but I won’t know until I can get this looked at by the garage. If it is just a battery it will be an enormous relief! I gather the more recent (post 2012) V6s are less prone than the earlier ones, but not unheard of…

Would it start and run with a snapped crank?
I can't imagine that.:eek::eek::eek:

Not with a snapped crank but probably would with a spun bearing just maybe not for long:eek:.
No idea about harmonic balancer or the v6 for that matter:(.

Go big or go home V8 mate:D.

Can't recall any mention of this, but spun bearings etc would mean a drop in oil pressure as well as noise and vibration.
and all this could be caused by the oil pump having taken a holiday.
We'll just have to wait and see what gets discovered!

Even the d5 has the same issues with the 3.0 v6 engine, no year is exempt.

He did say vibes and oil light came on

Here’s a video with a snapped crank, got everything crossed for the OP it’s just the battery

We were working up to that bad news slowly;) and you just dump it on him:eek:. Does the SDV6 still suffer the same as the D3?

Good to hear you from you again:)

lol, afraid so , can happen in the D3, RRS,D4, D5

Many thks and also hope ur good

Yes I have seen truck engines do just that
Just done some research and was a bit surprised to see that yes some cars can run with bust cranks, it seems to depend on how the crank bust. If bits of one half still mesh with bits of the other then I can see how that would happen.
Weird though!
