I’ve been looking at used, low mileage (up to 30k) RR Sport and Discovery, and the vehicles with the most eye-catching prices are usually the D250 rather than D300.

As the speed limit is 70mph, I’m very tempted, but can’t find much online in the way of specific reviews. Other than for very new cars, such as the new RR Sport, which I’m definitely not looking at.

Any reason not to go for this power unit?

My wife’s driving is about 10k pa, mainly in lanes or around town, with less frequent motorway trips.

Should be the 6 cylinder then? Much better than the i4 diesel but if you're not doing long runs I'd go for a petrol.

The dpf is too far downstream on the i4 diesels so it never gets hot enough to regen, causing oil dilution. Not sure about the i6 diesels but if she's just doing little stop start journeys I'd avoid.

In terms of power between D250 and D300 I don't think you'd notice unless you were a real driving enthusiast or towing regularly

Thank you for that, that’s very reassuring.

No, we’re not driving enthusiasts, and no longer have a touring caravan, so just looking for a comfortable car with a high driving position, that’s happy through sometimes flooded lanes that our BMW 5 series isn’t good for.

Just bear in mind they're not indestructible through water, nice and steady and double check where your air intake is 👍🏻

She had a bad experience with the BMW a few years back, followed other cars through water that was too deep and almost ended in disaster, and so now she’s paranoid through an ankle deep puddle.

But yeah, I’ve watched a lot of videos on how to proceed through water. Thanks 👍
