Every now and again when I use the fob button to lock my TD5 discovery 2 the headlights turn on and remain on, unlocking and locking again ussually sort it out, it can be a problem and has once lead to a flat battery when locked in daylight and not noticed, now it doesnt happen very often, ive probably only ever seen it happen half a dozen times in the last 2 years but its strange and I wondered what connection there might be that may cause it.

That's a complex matter.....It's something related to BCU or IDM or an intermittent behaviour of the driver's door switch( u can check this one but u better not mess with the other two without a scantool)

If by the drivers door switch you mean the locking assembly, that has recently been replaced as that door stopped working on the central locking (apparently its fairly common) so if thats the part you mean its been replaced.
It has done it since, just once as ive noticed, but then again as I said before its probably only done it a handfull of times over the last 2 years.
