D2 td5 auto no drive but has reverse

Hi I have a D2 td5 auto w reg. It goes brilliantly in reverse but no froward movement at all and it won't select 1st gear. You needs to wiggle the lever to get it to put the light on for the selected gear. Any suggestions please before we change the box

I wouldn't dream of changing the box seeing as how gear selection is electrical.
I'd first check all electrical connections to and from the lever and the xyz switch.
It could be you need to disassemble the XYZ switch, clean it and reassemble it using nuts and bolts. It could also have slipped out of position.
