Hi everyone. It's probably been covered already...but here goes. After my Defender was stolen I'm considering buying a TD5 D2. I've seen a pretty nice one but the mileage was nearly 180k and don't know full service history. Are there any particular potential issues I should be aware of? I know the rear chassis can be an issue, but that's it. Thanks for any advice/pointers in the right direction. Cheers

Go look in the engine threads, td5 section is always real busy

But while there's loads on that board, the only people who tend to post there are the ones who are having or had trouble with the Td5 engine.
There's nothing particularly newsworthy in posts that say "I have a Td5 engine and not had any trouble with it".
Like many engines, it's a pretty robust lump that can run for a long time if it is looked after; regular oil and filter changes. But having said that, there's always an exception to every rule.

IMHO, LR have designed & made two rather good engines in their history, and the TD5 is one of them. Looked after, I.E. properly serviced, they are capable of very high mileages. I think you'd probably struggle to find a looked after TD5 with engine trouble.

( the other is the 300Tdi)

As most of us are aware, and the OP is asking. it is not normally the Engine itself that cuses the problems it is the Ancillaries/ plug in components.,

Cheers
