Hi all, 2 questions here, a while ago, I mentioned I had replaced my cv joint, but have an error code of “toothed wheel error”. If it is the reluctor ring that is the problem (wrong amount of teeth, no body has told me the right amount of teeth yet) how easy is it to replace the reluctor ring? Or is it a whole new cv joint? If so, where can I get one? I’m on 2 week holiday from work and want to get it done while I have the time.
On another note, I think my prop shaft bearing needs replacing as I hear a funny noise (whirring or grinding noise) as I’m driving down the road, tone doesn’t change with speed and always constant. What tools do I need (sized bits) to change one and how hard can it be? I don’t have a luxury of a warm garage or plenty of tools at hand, as I lost all my handy tools when I became homeless years ago. BTW, my 2 weeks starts Friday, as I only work Fri, Sat and Sun, so my 2 weeks starts this Friday. If anybody is near by that can help (the husband, as I’m trying to finish some courses off) it would be much appreciated. I live near the border of Carlisle, roughly about 10-15 min away from Gretna towards Dumfries.

Your best bet would be to count the teeth on other side wheel I would think, believe the rings are available on there own they press on to the shaft, you will have to search. If you have already replaced the cv would have thought you already had an idea on tools needed.

I meant tools needed for prop shaft bearing removal, as I’ve (my husband) has never done one before, but the reluctor ring, how easy is it to pry off? I have found a replacement online, but don’t want to waste my money on something that could have the wrong amount of teeth.

Which Prop are you talking front or back. Probably not the easiest of job on a drive, Do you have some ramps or good axle stands.

I did the front on our 2011 and you have to drop the trans subframe:eek:. Some have said the earlier 1s just drop out.
Not done the back, but as it has the center bearing I would think it would not be needed.

What engine. Just checked you info:)
V8 front prop will need a piece of exhaust removed probably, Rear prop probably needs the rear section of exhaust removing as it follows the prop tunnel?
Not much more than basic tools Sockets and spanners, a torque wrench if your posh:). The bolts for the prop to box/diff are torx ( fancy allen key sorry cant remember the size) LR state to replace I didnt and its been fine.

Have a read here and look at yours L322 - Drive shaft CV & propshaft. | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum

remember ours is a 2011 TDV8 so maybe totally different take a look underneath and compare the pics:D.

Mine is a 2002 4.4 HSE, I assume it’s a Center prop shaft bearing, as that’s what my searches suggest. I have 2 sets of ramps to lift it up. Came in handy with my husband, said he could get his fat belly under the car. (His words, not mine)

Same tools.
Still suggest a good look under before you start.
If you have to remove exhaust what condition is it? Will it come apart, more importantly go back together:).
As I said only 2011 experience so pinch of salt with all I suggest:)
You sound like you have a goodun hope you look after him:).
