Arse!
Don't know what my front axle is of, I think its of a 300 tdi, anyhow, my cv is goosed, its making a crunching noise on cornering. So, options? Are there different types of CV joint? Splines I know about, I can count the splines on the drive flange without stripping down the swivel housing , right?.

theres 3 types, thin flange is stc3051 the other 2 depends on whether 21 or 33 spline into cv

Looks like I got the thick one, so the splines on the drive flange are no indication of the splines into the CV? So before I can order the part I need to strip it down? I also have EP90 leaking out there so its looking like new seals as well.

Wheel could use a rub down and paint job as well. Lotta surface rust on there, and turning to pitting in a few areas.

Blimey,

It is only crunching.........and a little leak.....LOL.......Don't overthink things....:p,

Cheers
. It's been like that for the best part of a year now, I reckon its gonna need fixing soon.

But that means I would have to do the other ones as well..

Or you could do them piecemeal, starting with the one that will be off while you do the CV job, and using the spare to rotate the others.

It isn't actually a bad job, takes about an hour to rub down, about same each for a primer coat and maybe a bit less for topcoat.

I would post some pics if photobucket were still playing ball! :(

I can get them sand blasted at work, if I can pick up a cheap set of wheels and tyres off eBay I would go down that road and put new tyres on there as well, fronts are worn, rears are like new, not bad seeing as they are 9 years old.

Sand blasting is even better than rub down! :) And much less effort. It does make a better job of it, and improved appearance of yer motor improves the positive mindset of the tester when you take it in for MOT.
