Ok guys the times come for the fun to begin

im booking my girl in for her new custom exhaust, it cant be done for afew weeks due to the garage being busy but afew things i want to check first so i improve her an not hinder her.

what exhaust system will be the best for my girl considering shes getting quite afew mods in the near future.

my idea was a straight high flow system from the turbo with a dummy cat an one centre silencer with no back box. The garage wanted to know though what dimensions , diameters etc for the exhaust pipe an the silencer so does anyone have suggestions as he was saying his done diesel bmws before an although they sound better infact they have come out with a worse performance an i diffo dont want that...

any suggestions welcome......

i was also thinking of putting on a sports cat instead but not sure its worth the bother an extra money when ill get better results with a dummy cat

I'm waiting to see the replies too mate , been going through the various threads and all I'm seeing is tales of woe , I'm at the stage in thinking ive got the only good Freelander or its just about to break !!

What will the size difference make mate an which would you go for personally the 2.25 or the 2.5?

whats the reason too for the smaller back box but no centre silencer as i was under the impression it wouldn't matter what way i did it as i was thinking of doing the centre silencer an loosing the back box

cheers mate

smaller back box is better for ground clearance if you go out green laning / off roading ... I will be purchasing 1 very soon as my back box is a bit rusty now

I get that but what in asking is why keep a box box instead of just having a smaller centre silencer? Whats the reasoning behind it?

less noise!
my 1.8 had a power flow 5" diam rear box in place of the oe item (sounded like a boy racer corsa )
I had to buy a DB killer to wedge up the tail pipe to quieten her down

Sadly a DB killer also kills any power gained by fitting a performance exhaust in the first place.
Petrol Freelanders need 2 decent flowing boxes to keep noise levels acceptable while keeping the performance gain.
A turbo diesel is different as the turbo exhaust turbine effectively reduces the sound pulses from the exhaust. A turbo is the only silencer that actually gains power. All other silencers reduce power from the engine.

Power was not the reason for the swop ,I needed space for a LPG tank.
although with the DB Killer out the power was better, but all a the top end
Not where you need to be when trundling around at 50mph or towing a trailer

Decent thanx for the advice all so does this sound right then?

im going to order the full exhaust system from the turbo back with a dummy cat, no centre silencer an a smaller box on the rear, pipes in a 2.5 an ill go with whatever the garage thinks in regards to smaller back box.

thanx again all, next up the intercooler

IM really trying to be sympathetic to the engine by doing the exhaust an intercooler first as i know there be no real gains until ivr remapped her but in going to wait to remap her until her new turbo is done along with the injectors, even got a quote last week for a beautiful custom manifold, would look amazing with the polished aluminium pipes under the bonnet

Shes booked in for the 10th cant wait, its the little things in life hey haha

the garage said that was fine going with the smaller back box an getting rid of the centre silencer but they asked what size box id like to go with? Anyone got any suggestions on what would be best considering all the extras shes soon to receive an the beat boost up in power.
