Been a scorcher (well, 18/19c is hot up here ok :p).

Drove 99 miles to look at a car for mate (he bought it) and AC on all the way, bliss

Hooked car onto "A" frame and off we set...

After three towns, we reached clear roads. I hadn't fully noticed the cold AC had got tepid, but cold, warm, cold, warm air traipsing through vents o_O

I happened to just notice the above, then the temp needle flickered up, down, up, down and settled firm in the usual place.

I must admit I did have an arse munching moment, but it settled down and stayed there all the way home (more miles as we detoured to visit my sis) and it was perfect without missing a beat or climbing needle.

My question is, WTF??

Seriously, what could have caused that? Never seen anything like it before

Airlock in the coolant maybe? If the hevac thought the engine coolant system was cold, it would just pump air through the "hot" side of the heater box because it didn't think it needed to cool it.
I would have said it was the temp sensor on the heater matrix pipe but that wouldn't cause your temp gauge to fluctuate.

Nah! Coolant has been in place since pipe was changed....oooh, back in Feb or March or whatever! Never been disturbed since. Always check coolant level before long journey and as usual, perfect level (without opening cap).

It was just sudden cool, warm, cool, warm, and at same time the needle up,down, etc. Never done it before and didn't do it again!

The temp guage has NEVER flickered in the last 8000 miles since I had her. It DID go "up" when I first picked up the car (low coolant) and once or twice after the pipe had burst and I was bleeding it. But as said, that must have been Feb or March.

It is curious, but I just wondered if anyone has ever experienced this phenomenon before

What was the light on the sensor in front of the windscreen like? If it goes into shade it'll move to pump hotter air. Similarly check for fluff in the vent below the clock. Blend motors sticking can cause some odd temperatures to blow in the cabin. How that affects the coolant temperature on the dash I have no idea. Maybe the exhaust gases escaping into the coolant given it is a v8? :D:D

We were in bright sunlight all the way! Hasn't done it again, but I wonder if it was a voltage thingy

Perhaps I should check the fuse box and/or alternator o_O

The oky coky wasn't on the radio by any chance was it?

Well I've recently been behind George and it ain't exactly palatable.

That sideways jiggling is just, well, it's downright flamboyant:eek:

I was probably looking for summat :p

She tracks pretty well actually ;) You're invited to come for a drive and I'll even give you a go if you like.

When and where were you following me, huh? o_O Bloody stalker :p

RR, aye ;)

Wammers, no, radio was turned down :D

Hi There, just reading through this post and think you may have solved my "not cool enough my side" issue. I'll be vacuuming my vents later...!!!

Tricky.

hi mate

could a blocked or restricted condense drain line cause this, or blocked pollen filter , just wondering
