hi all.

firstly i know very little about the inner-workings of gearboxs or clutchs.

i know series 3 gearboxs are fully syncronised, but also i shouldn't really treat it anything like a modern gearbox. i'm having problems dropping from 3rd to 2nd (usually to slow down for a junction or to climb a steep him) and even double declutching it is really crunchy- to the extent that i think i'm probally doing serious damage. in fact the only gear change that is atall smooth is 3rd to 4th if i pause when changing.

before i start looking for cluch problems etc (an area i'd definatly have to get somebody else to help with) how smooth should i realistically expect it to be? anybody else had similar probs?

sounds like you've got a bit of a problem there, it should be reasonably easy to change gear if everything is working right and its shouldnt involve crunching!!

i'd have a look at the clutch oil and change the gearbox oil, have a look for any gearbox bits in the oil!!

mines sometimes a swine to get into second found with mine if i move it side to side while gently puttin it in it useally gos in but rast at it i went from sencond to third and my gear stick came of in my hand luckerly i was off road.
