Hello, my disco 300tdi crunches from 1st to 2nd every other gear change is fine only this 1st to second. It does it off road in the low range box aswell and i am begining to loose confidance to change gear off road. Can anyone help and please advise? surely the gearbox is not finished is it?

Ok thanks guys, ill try to get used to it. its just annoying more so off road when you need the power to move and kep it going.

double de clutch up,double de clutch down, makes speed match easy when you get the hang....helps if you have driven dreadful old lorries for years :)

They all do that, sir - and it's true to a great extent although it can be improved.

An oil change is what's called for and I would suggest either LR MTF94 or Difflocks' EVO1.

I put the EVO1 in the gearbox of our TDi200 and it was smoother and quieter - well worth doing imo.

Mine to. When not in need of changing quickly, just let the revs drop. When on normal road, clutch in, take it out of first, pause for a sec, then into second, clutch off. Seems to be ok doing this.

Problem is that i'm so used to doing this in the disco, that i do it on every other car i drive. My passengers think i'm a bit wierd when i do it in my mondeo

Ok thanks guys im going to change the oil, i just gave it a full service of the engine so might aswell. Hope it helps if not i am already learning to live with it, just glad its not an early sign of the gearbox on the way out never done that job and not looking too forward to changing it when the times comes!
