cruise control

hi

i was wondering and hope u didn't mind me asking how did everyone get on with fitting the oem cruise control to their freelanders plse

know there was quite a few people fitting it and out of curiosity was wondering how people got on, yeh i know got to much time on my hands, lolol

does anyone happen to know what the part number is for the mounting bracket under the seat that holds the cruise control ecu please

I used mine yesterday on the m6 and then on the m56 (I think it was ) and works great when I first wanted one someone sold me a control unit but it was for the v6 , they work differently than the proper fitted ones , you switch the switch on then you pull the reset (bottom Paddle) and the light will come on the dash then just set it , to fully turn it off take foot of gas peddle and pull the RES paddle and the light goes out and then switch off . I really wanted one because my previous car had one .

That's interesting.
My factory fitted on works slightly differently. You switch on using the button in the same way. I then set the speed with the top 'paddle' and the light comes on. if I touch the brakes it turns the dash light off. If I hit the bottom 'paddle' it resumes the last set speed. Or I use the top 'paddle' again to set a new speed, or when set, I can click it to increase my speed in 1mph increments.

thks guys, was curious in how many people actually did indeed fit the oem cruise control unit

mine works the same as yours, bought a second hand ecu so that it didnt require any programming and was just plug and play

will be nice to see how many people did fit one in the end

so nice to prove the local dealer wrong as when i first enquired he said it was impossible to do

but know i wouldn't have got anywhere without the great help i got here

i think ive found the ecu bracket from Brit car and for the sum of 1 pound

Does the cruise control only work on automatic gearboxes or can it work on manual gearboxes too?

No reason why it shouldn't work on a manual 'box.

But if you hit resume at 20mph and it is set at 70mph, the auto changes up etc, whereas the manual could not deal with it.

So maybe it can't.

My Astra was a manual fitted with cruise, never tried hitting resume when in a low gear though so not sure what it would have done!

resume button I always thought it was reset.?

No. If the speed has been set then the resume button takes you back to that pre-set speed.

Or switches it off. If you press it again it will go back to the set speed.

The only way to reset it is to use the master switch by the parking sensor switch to turn on or off.

if anyone still needs one just bought the cruise control bracket that secures the ecu underneath the drivers seat and is only £1.20 plus postage

I fitted cruise to my MG ZS180 using Freelander V6 parts!! Does that count?

Pinned you to the seat as it set about flooring the accelerator all the way to the redline!

Damn child in me!

I had cruise control on my Pathfinder. I miss having it, especially on longer trips.

On our Astra GTC if you press resume in a lower gear, it ether resumes the target speed at a higher RPM. Or if the engine hits the red line before the target speed, it obviously stops accelerating. I think it puts some kind of warning on the information centre but I missed that!!

so are the wires all in place?
in the steering wheel
for the on off switch
and the control box?
is it just a case of get the bits and plug them in and go?

if all the wires are there it should be plug and play

make sure u get a second hand cruise ecu as it will be pre programmed

it will then save u having to plug it in to a tester
