Hello! Long time no see... been a bit busy with stuff! ...and no, I don't plan to start one hell of a conversation again!

Anyway... my Disco 1 (1997) has cruise control which no longer works. The rubber hose is worn out, cracked and useless.

Someone suggested reinforced fuel pipe as a replacement because it will then last forever. Can anyone recommend exactly what I'm after here?

I have no idea what fuel pipe to buy, whether it's flexible enough to push onto the t-pieces, etc, etc... so who has replaced their cruise control hose before??

Thanks in advance!

i've also trimmed the ends of mine, several times, and it's at the point now where it's too short if I trim it again, so I've had to duct-tape it this time!

I'm happy to buy more standard vacuum pipe, but someone (on here, I think) did suggest reinforced fuel pipe as a better alternative... or is that a load of rubbish and vacuum pipe is better?

Cruise control is a vacuum system so using small diameter vacuum hose is ideal, non vacuum hose such as windscreen washer hose which may collapse, you could use the larger fuel hose that has nylon reinforcing if you wish, it's all up to you.
There no more to it....

Thanks for the advice... would you believe though, i'm struggling to find anything on eBay! So many types of hoses and pipes, etc, etc... out there that it's almost impossible to find the right things amongst everything! lol

I will keep searching...

discool said 4.5mm... i don't suppose 4.2mm makes much difference though... right?

3.2mm probably is too small though, admittedly! I measured mine and it was somewhere between 4 and 5mm.

I've just fixed the cruise on mine a couple of weeks ago using some 1/4" LLDPE water pipe (the type supplied with fridges that have a plumbed in water filter).

Search for Fridge Water Pipe on ebay, it's around 99p per metre.

The 1/4" pipe fits perfectly inside the existing vacuum hose so I cut a few 2" lengths from good sections of the vaccum hose to act as joints between the LLDPE pipe and the t-piece/pump.

I thought the internal bore may have been too small but my cruise works perfectly now with no loss of vacuum. The only issue I have is that the pipe is bright blue so it doesn't exactly blend in!!

Right... in the end I bought 4 metres of this: 1x Black cotton Overbraid Vacuum Hose 4.5mm (VH010B) | eBay

I then cut it into 3 lengths (with lots spare so I can cut the ends off for years to come):

- Vacuum pump <---> t-piece.
- T-piece <---> actuator/diaphragm.
- T-piece <---> adapter under driver's dashboard (through the bulkhead).

I then bought some 2.5mm cable ties and cable tied each end to keep it in place.

Oh, and I had to stick some of the ends of the hose into boiling water for a few seconds so they could actually go onto the solid pipe/adapter parts, but they're all on now and guess what........... it works perfectly! :D

Thanks for the help, people!
