Hi Hughie,

Bought one for my 1999 TD5. My landy was pre-wired for the kit so no problem there. You have to cut a hole in the side of the steering wheel to fit the switch, but drilling a load of holes and then carefully knifing round did the trick for me.

YES it is as true as it sounds, buy that, bang it in and away you go!

Its a joke that for the sake of a stupid little part like that all disco2's could have had CC as standard. It can't even cost a fiver to make.
 
Only the TD5 is ECU ready, V8 is different...

Pay attention to the instructions about disconnecting the Air Bag... you dont want that going off when you strip it out of the wheel:eek:

well worth the effort and an easy job you can do in an hour or so!!
 
I did mine .... used a gas soldering iron to cut the hole in the steering wheel. Neat.

Job done inside an hour.

Went last week to Surrey and back via Hull using Cruise all the way
962 miles on 122 litres diesel (26.84 gallons) so that was 35.8 miles per gallon for a gas-guzzler four-by-four! Not bad.

thanks again for the tips, i do miss cruise control when towing a caravan. Like everything in life you dont miss it until its gone.
 
all of the instructions I have seen for this recommend leaving the air bag for 20mins or so after disconnecting the battery in order for it to discharge.

Not needed. The wires are there.

On the dash - right side, you pull out the switch blanking plate (you must use the right one) and the Cruise wires come out on the blanker! Take the pluggy off, push it onto the cruise switch, and stuff it in the hole. Job done.


Get the radio code! Disconnect the battery PLUS leads.
Wait about half an hour to discharge the airbag capacitors.
Turn the steering wheel turn 90 degrees away from straight.
Undo two TORX screws behind the wheel and lift off the airbag, and unplug it. Lay it down somewhere safe.

Use the template to mark where the hole needs to be cut on the right side of the steering wheel - it does not need to be accurate as the switch has a big rubber base that is miles bigger than the hole.
Push the switch in through the hole from the outside and try to hook its bracket over a stud. Test how it fits. Find the white plug that looks spare and plug it into the switch. Fit the switch over the stud and screw in ONE screw that came with the switch. Tuck the wired into a clip sitting there ready for them. Refit the airbag and wires and two screws.

Connect battery, re-set radio, and head for the open road!
 
I wonder if I could scan the cardboard template that shows where to cut the hole. Would that help? Maybe they give you one anyway.

will get mine from rimmer bros then before they see the ebay price. A scaned template would be good though.
