Hi folks,
Just a thread to hopefully help others learn from my mistake. Duh..!!
P38,4.6 and no cruise control. Never had it and suspect it had been so for years. Common fault by the sound of it. So checked the bellows- ok. Checked the small pipes around the bellows- not bad, bit cracked so replaced them anyway. Checked the long vacuum pipe right the way back to the pedal switch- ok not bad, no cracks or splits seen.
So out came rave and a very qualified auto electrical mate started working through the fault finding list...
Got to step number somewhere near 8 or 9.. head scratching and still no faults..("Sounds the ECU's stuffed mate".) Then when he had his head under the dash, "here hang on, try blowing down the pipe at the other end..." ....psssssss. !!!
Vacuum pipe going through the bulk head, had split, but was resting on the grommet so no clue it was damaged anywhere. So new bit of pipe and CRUISE ON..!!
So folks, an additional test that doesn't seem to be on rave..
"Get your gob over the end, blow and listen..!!!"
Lesson learnt.
