I would like to get a two replacement cross members for my 72' SIII 88" LHD.
One is the second one that sits under the engine, in front of the gearboxe cross member.

I would like to to get a bolt in gearboxe cross member to swap out the welded in one.

Since the frame is stripped down, sand blasted and painted, I may as well switch to the bolt in cross member.

Who would be a good place to to buy them from?
Not looking for cheapest price, but rather 'best' or well made pieces.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers, Allen

Richards do a bolt in cross member. I don't know if they do them separately but the are an option on new chassis'. I'm sure they would do you one if you asked nicely.

Great idea Rubins4, thanks for the suggestion!
I thought about Richards, but since I didn't see anything about individual parts and components, like a dummy, I just assumed they would only sell a complete chassis. It just goes to show I shouldn't assume things! :)

I contacted them and they kindly said, yes they could supply the parts I needed. So sent them my shipping address so they can figure out total price. Will be getting bolt-on transmission cross member, under engine cross member (as mine needs replaced), a set of 1 Ton Military dumb irons and 1 Ton Military rear spring mounts and shackle hangers.
Since it's an 88' I'll have to build a mount for the rear spring mounts to mount to, but not an issue.
Cheers, Allen

Happy to help. Your 88 will look impressive with 1 ton suspension underneath, do you have 1 ton wheels as well?

Love to see some pics chap :) Landy in Hawaii....man alive, far rather be there than here right now ! :D
Lol, You know what is really amazing about this whole project? I stumbled onto it 1/2 mile from my house and towed it home! I think its probably the only SIII on the Big Island. There's not much to show yet, just got everything pulled apart and getting ready to sand blast the frame and bulkhead and then soda blast all the body parts.
I'll do a thread (with pics of course) documenting the rebuild if there would be any interest in one.

Cheers, Allen

Well sorta... I hope it isn't too sacrilegious to talk about here, but I'm going to put modified Toyota FJ40 axles with FJ60 diffs under her and Land Cruiser 5.5x16 split rims.

But everything else is staying Land Rover! :) She's getting a Stubby R380 with Ashcroft's adapter kit to mate to the the SIII TC and a 200 Tdi. Everything will fit well and will be keeping the SIII front too. The engine mounts need to go forward about 4" but the tranny & TC stay in same position, just need to use an electric fan instead of the belt driven one for clearance.
There are a number of advantages for me because of living on the Big Island Hawaii, as far as axle parts availability, plus I already have a set of FJ40 axle housings stripped and ready to use and a set of FJ60 diffs ready for new gears. And can use RCV 30 spline chromoly axles front and rear, with CV joints in the front, disc brakes front and rear with FF rear.

I hope I don't get banned now! ;-)

Totally off topic but someone I know went to Australia for Chrimbo..... Lovely and hot and they went to the beach... but they said it did have major downsides...... you couldn't go in the sea as there were that many jellyfish and there were ambulances taking repeated people who tried out of the sea..... and they also said flies were everywhere and would cover your back and if you brushed them off they would swarm your face.... made me feel a lot better :)
