Some of you Discovery owners may be able to help.
I've just bought a 94 Disco 3.9. It drives and runs great (apart from the lpg problem)
I don't know if it's just me but I seem to feel every bump on the road.
Now if the shocks were tired surely it would be spongy and wallowy, it's not, it feels quite tight. just a bit bumpy.
What I'm trying to say is: Is this normal?

I just crawled under and had a look, it looks 'stock'.
Springs don't usually wear out do they?
Only modification to it is lpg tanks slung under the sills,
I think my first job will be to move them, they look like the first rock or tree stump will rip them off.

wot tyre pressure yer running?

2 bar pressure.
I changed the springs and shocks on my old RR some years ago.
A 'mechanic' told me I was wasting my time with springs because they don't wear out or lose their 'springyness'.
I am not disagreeing with you, in fact I agree.
But for the price of 4 springs I may as well change them.
Should I go with stck shocks if I change them or are there any good (not tot pricey) aftermarket ones?

like er?

Yer might wanna check the bushes on radius arms and also top mounts of "A" frame and ball joint.

And as far as I am aware, springs do lose their springiness after a time but I wouldn't have thought this would be a huge problem and nor would it be likely to cause the banging and crashing you're describing.

i would suggest looking more towards the bearings, may want nipping up a touch, check for play in your front wheels, swivel housing, hubs etc etc and work your way upwards!

I finally got a chance to crawl under and have a butchers underneath today. the banging was coming from the two torpedos that are slung under the sills for holding LPG,
The metal straps had rotted through and the tanks were rattling about.
I secured them with tie down straps for now, I think that an LPG line has rubbed through as well which would explain why it don't run on gas.
Everything else looks pretty tight and secure.
