Crankshaft dust seal - to lube or not?

Nearly finished the rebuild on my 200tdi:):)
About to fit the crankshaft dust seal, but neither Haynes or the LR manual mentions any kind of lubrication. I'm tempted to pack the seal with grease, as it doesn't seem right to have a seal running dry. But, would the grease gather dust, forming an abrasive sludge which would score the crankshaft? In other words, what's usual practice?

If it's like some other seals it may have a teflon coating and using grease or oil will actually impede it's ability to seal...
