hi chaps question is replacing a crankshaft pulley a hard job i am not a mechanic prof or amatuer.. so wondered how hard it was is it a garage job how much would it cost...
 
Not sure about diesels, but most engines only have one nut/bolt holding the pulley on.
If it has a cam belt attached you would need to lock the engine timing, however you do on a diesel. Usually putting pins through the cam pulley into holes in head/block.
If it has a timing chain then assuming its only auxillary drive belt/s attached to pulley then you'll need to loosen the ancilleries and remove belts. Undo bolt/nut a tap pulley off. There should be only one way it'll go back on.
 
The crank pulley is removed by undoing six bolts. No need to remove centre hub. If you do remove centre hub you will need a holding tool for it. Make sure on refit that you angle tighten it correctly or you will lose drive to the oil pump.
 
thanks for the replies guy but dont mean to much to me LOL still sound like a big job to me might have to be a garage job if i decide to buy
 
why the need to replace crankshaft pulley? If you are buying the car with it needing replacement they are very expensive.if it is the bmw 2.5, the crankshaft pulley is a vibration damper.
