Ok guys here's one for you...

Changed my cambelt about 6 weeks ago. Done everything by the book to the letter.

2nd day of holiday my cambelt goes.

Got it home and after further inspection the lip that keeps the cambelt in position on the crank shaft pully has came loose from the pulley, broke in to several pieces and shredded my cambelt.

Posting a link to a facebook album with all the pics in. Let me know what you think? And how it could have happened cheers

Just really unlucky, must have suffered metal fatigue on one of the spot welds and then on braking up shreaded the belt at the same time.
Just changed my 300 tdi belt last week as well.:(

No, no ****parts. Just a generic OEM timing belt change. Afaik the crank pulley was original. After looking at the shrapnel that came off I'm thinking that you are right, one of the welds failed and it all went south. One of the recovered pieces had some rust on it doesn't take alot to pull a small weld like that off when it gets weakened. Expensive bloody fault!
