crank shaft locking tool

i wont to check the pump timing on my defender 200tdi again i have the pump locking tool is there one for the crank / fly wheel i can only find compleat sets for sale and cost a bom i wont to make sure its spot on or do you just line it up by eye through the hole ?

drill a 4.5mm hole through the centre of a wading plug, then tap a 5mm drill bit through the hole. fit the plug so that the point of the drill engages with the V groove in the flywheel.
