alright,

ive got another problem to diagnose. This one has been going on for a while, but the dreaded MOT is looming on friday, so i thought i best get some opinions to my problem.

Heres the scenario -

When driving along in my 200 defender, and i put my foot on the brake pedel (it doesnt matter if im just gradually slowing down or doing a quick stop) there is a cracking noise, much like the same noise of a torque wrench clicking when you have reached the specified torque setting. BUT, this noise only occurs when moving, if my landy is stationary, and i put my foot on the brake, no noise occurs?!?!

i first thought is was back lash in my front diff, (as it was knackered and whinnning), so i replaced this, along with the drive flanges, as they were worn out. but to no avail, the cracking noise is still there.

It sounds like it is coming from the region of the gearbox / transfer box, as you can here it from both the passeneger window and drivers window. But im am unsure of this.

I have been under the landy, and rocked it back and forth, and cannot here the noise at all, i have checked all the bushes and damper etc, the only noise i did find was a sticking drum spring on the rear axle (sorted that, but still no joy).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i would check ujs sometimes you have to remove one end from diff or t/box to check one not seized ,brake pads can click especially front
