Disco 3 (LR3) Could these issues be due to being rear ended?

hiya

here are the details for A plan

speak to Carlie on 01635 874646 , also advise them u belong to Land Rover forums inc the discovery 3 one

they didn’t consider them as mods in the sense of charging any extra , main reason I was thinking about the 3rd row seat removal was using it to store towing strops ,etc , but to be honest might be more hassle than it’s worth , indeed have the side bins and top ones in the boot area

Plse let us know how u get on as also having ur 10 x years NCB should count for something these days
Thanks i’ll perhaps give her a call once i have the V5 back and try again since i’m sure i’ve already had a quote from them....I agree perhaps more hassle than its worth...the storage bins are ideal for towing straps etc

Right, yet again!
My road tax is £260 too.
But never realised you were insuring it as a commercial, which must make a huge difference. Once it's a normal car it ought to become a lower insurance risk.
I don’t have a choice since when trying to insure as a 5 seat car they say its a commercial and must have van insurance instead :(

Right.
I am being dead thick.
Forgot it probly doesn't have the rear doors or windows. As mine is a 5 seat with the rear bins (which I love by the way, all my tools go in there together with spares, instantly accessible even with a full boot).
So suppose the only other thing you could do would be to cut oput the rear window places and put glass in them. If this is actually possible. No idea really. So it is the fact it is a van with a second row of seats. Hmm! not so easy to do much about this.
So I had a search and found this.
"My mate has just had his brand new commercial delivered last week, it was a TDV6 S spec model ,which he brought from a dealer in Scotland who advertised in Auto Trader.
it appears that the Disco started off as a 5 seat car, the rear seats are taken out and burnt(my mate asked if he could buy them back, but was told it was policy to dispose ofso as they could be re fitted)
a new false floor panel was made from fibre board & carpeted,
The rear seat belts removed, but holes still there.
The electric rear windows had the wiring disabled, the windows were sealed closed by using windscreen bonding agent,an aluminum plate was then rivetted to inside of rear windows and carpeted.
on looking at this vehicle it appears to be an easy job to refit seats ,but a little harder to unseal windows." from this http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic13126.html?highlight=commercial+conversion
It is also covered here

Hope I've done my penance here, along with the 3 Hail Marys, the 4 Our Fathers and the odd Novena!

Yep i’ve come to realise that..its 2 seats on the log book so hopefully once changed i’ll be ok
What about the rest of it. I don't have a D3 to compare. But there must be something else different. Like tax class = diesel car. Body = estate. Wheelp = 2 axle rigid body.

I have had vin and engine number corrected before but not sure the process to change from van to car.

Haven’t a blinking clue so heres the original log book prior to my private plate going on

Hahaha not thick at all... it does have 5 doors and windows...some kind of hard plastic panel covers the glass though and the switches might be disabled although i’ve not tried them...i have them locked from the drivers switch?
I’m now wondering if perhaps it too started life as a 5 door? maybe someone can tell from the old but identical log book i just posted?
Ps also has the rear bins :p:p

Hiya @Stanleysteamer

indeed the commercial has the rear doors etc , as mentioned just blanked , there are many kits available online to convert them to a 5 x seater , funny enough the car type / commercials looks virtually the same from the outside

Enclosed some pics which u may find interesting, this is when I fitted new airbags so u can see it would be a whole different story if the 3rd row seats were to be refitted because of all the airbags, impact sensors etc

but from what I’ve also read, will just be the case of re fitting the middle row seats , seat belts , possibly carpet section, sorting out electric windows , then of course sorting out the side doors, electric windows

Then of course as we’ve all chatted about is then getting the V5 changed

as mentioned in one of the threads linked to, apparently the door windows are disabled somewhere but are still fitted. So reconnecting shouldn't be too hard.

Vehicle catagory is N1 which is commercial. My FL2 is M1 passenger carrying. I assume yer need to change from N1 to M1. But I don't know if that is allowed or needs inspected first.

can see a few door panels coming off, lol

am wondering if maybe the floor seat threads might need a die run through them , also after the conversion is done if it will need a new MOT to check everything has been done to satisfy the insurance company and for the V5 ??

bless u, did u buy that thinking it was a plain commercial plse

Just so I’m 100% and sorry being a royal pain , what badge do u have on the back door, RH side plse

I’ll tell u why after , many thks
And I get accused of writing Miss Marple-type things!!! (P.S. I think I know who done it!!):):)
