Could a new bumper really affect the warranty?

I'm thinking of putting on a cheap HD bumper to have some front recovery eyes in a more convenient position than jate rings, but when I was at Gigglepin today picking up some basic recovery gear they said I should check that it wouldn't affect the warranty before buying one.

Would/could Land Rover really invalidate any part of the warranty just because I put on a (non-winch) bumper which bolts straight onto the chassis using the same four bolts as the original bumper? If so, should I get it in writing that changing the bumper wouldn't affect the warranty?
 
How old is the car, I assume it depends what goes wrong with the car warranty wise not that they can really say its been used off road but bet they would try it on!
 
Two weeks old.

I figure I'm safe from any "it's not designed to be used off road" excuses because I bought it with MT tyres designed primarily for off road use.

Of course, I'm hoping never to need the warranty anyway!
 
Why not go to the garage and see what they can offer you bumper wise, they might say it's ok if it's e approved and all that.

But doesn't all work have to be completed by approved land rover garage.

No idea... I was just planning on bolting it on myself...

Seems buying new has it's own type of problems :confused:

I'll ask the place I bought it from and see what the deal is.

they might kick up a fuss if its not e approved.

no, work on a vehicle does not effect warranty as long as you use OE replacements or LR parts and correct specked oils etc
 
It IS designed to be used off road, what would be the point of a Defender otherwise?

My other car is a Kia... LR could learn a thing or two about warranties from them. I've had a coil spring and a wheel bearing replaced under warranty on a 4 year old, 40,000 mile car.
 
As far I remember as long as the fault you have on the vehicle is in no way related to the part you have fitted they cannot refuse warranty service.

How can they say that you fitting a bumper caused the gearbox/axle/electric window to fail etc......

Because of the laminar air flow caused by the bumper which effected the flow of air over the gearbox casing didnt allow the gearbox oil to reach its correct operating temperature:D

Well, the guy did say that Land Rover had rejected an engine warranty claim on a non-aircon defender which had had the OE aircon unit fitted after it was bought because mounting it in front of the radiator could restrict airflow to the engine, even though that's exactly how they fit it in the factory! So it might not too far from the truth that they could claim disturbed airflow!

Land Rover, the last bastion of the old style British car industry. They build poor quality cars, sell them at inflated prices and give appalling after sales service. Jaguar seem to have sorted this under TATA's ownership why not Land Rover.

Sorry to go off topic but does this mean your landy was 1 week old when we went green laning ?:eek::p haha
