Need to treat and repaint the metal front bumper and A bar on the 200tdi. I should add it is not a original but was fitted when I bought it.

I want to make sure I do the job properly although the final finish obviously does not need to be perfect.

What is the best way to treat the surface rust currently showing through some flaking paintwork and also if I find more serious rust when rubbing down.

Then do I need primer, if so which is the best type to use and finally what is the best paint for the job.

Many thanks in advance.

angle grinder with a wire brush - take off all the paint (or powder coat or whatever) and rust with it.

Then 90% zinc primer - good few coats, and then several decent coats of spray satin black.

Alternatively for a less good job, a quick rub down with high grit sandpaper like p80 and then a few coats of smooth hammerite black (satin or gloss, your choice). brush or spray, whatever floats your boat.

Thanks for that

Angle grinder with the hammerite I think.

Does the hamnmerite need the primer as well or is that a straight paint on?
