well another month hopfully will be there this time as car is back to geather but why is it always on a special day valentines, mothers day the wifes birthday just to test the bond i suppose any way whos going

I should be there, just goto sort thing ngine hunting problem on the V8.

I ran a trial there on Sunday and the water at the back of the site is 'snorkel deep'. Have fun

Andy66 or anyone that knows, Off toipc I know and Mods please put this somwhere (mabe a hybrid section?) I'm trying to sort out the steering on my 80 inch. Problem is its an 80 inch with an old Rover car power steering box which has a long input shaft compared to rover PAS. Which leaves me in a predicament I'm using a 90 steering column (quite short) but with the shortest rod I can find and small UJ's to connect the bottom of the column to the PAS it makes the steering wheel in an awful position. being an 80 its not doing me any favours. Normally I would get my bro to cut and reweld the shaft with his huge industrial welder and then use his lathe to machine it down but ARC rules state:

"B.6 Steering and axles.

B.6.1 steering linkage rods may be sleeved or have extra material bolted to them for additional strength. Any sleeves must be made in such a way that they can easily be removed at scrutineers request to enable examination of the contained part(s). (For the avoidance of doubt, steering gear parts may not be welded after original manufacturer.)

The other option I have it to get 2 shafts and machine them in half down the length of them on my bro's milling machine then bolt them together to make a complete shaft but I think thats a not too cleaver way of doing it. If it was welded and done propperly opposed to some hobby welder jobbie it would be far superior Any suggestions welcome!

Can't offer much help Jai, wish I could, but what do other competitors do in this situation? Must be quite a few out there who've done what you're doing ...

ill be honest i think they weld them and machine them down its not so bad with a landy PAS its worse because of this old rover PAS but the chassis (80 series one) has been modified quite well to fit it there. Just trying to play the game and stick within the rules. If indeed its possible

Only just seen this!!

I think that refers to steering arms 'down stream' from the steering box and not to the steering column.

I can check with our club scrutineer but that will be the MSA opinion and not anything that the ARC have added as SRs.

Well I have had a chat to some people and I have got a plan using a disco column thank you for the reply tho. I'm sure aslong as it safe and not designed stupidly then its ok. I asked Malcom @ whitbread and he told me how he does his and that was the same as I plan to do so I will do as advised and show the head scruteneer the column before I install it fully. Another hurdle overcome more to come I'm sure. Cheers Andy I really do appreciate your input.

No problem. Events that are booked so far this year are all on the club website. Aldermaston in June if probably your closest event.
