Copying ECU maps between vehicles

I have bought a second D2 TDI manual which is the same age (2004) as my current vehicle so both should have programmable ECUs.

The new vehicle has been remapped by a well known organisation but is not running well and has failed the MoT on smoke level. It may be due to factors other than the remap. I want to revert to standard tune to see what’s going on.

I am thinking of saving the standard map from my old car using Nanocom and loading it to the new car thereby overwriting the tuned file (after I have taken a copy of the tuned version).

Has anyone done this before and is there any issues that I need to be aware of? I am guessing that the injector codes will be unaffected - is this right? Is there a procedure available or even a copy of the standard file?

Any advice is welcomed.

Go on to Empire Tunings website, you can download the original maps for any year for free.

Injector codes dont matter.

Who mapped it?

Black smoke is an imbalance of fuel and air. So either its overfueling due to poor mapping or lack or air due to not enough boost, boost leak, clogged intercooler, blocked air intake etc...

I was thinking that it could be a quick check removing the tune up but yes there are other possibilities.

I am reluctant to say who did the retune as the relationship is with the previous owner. I can say that it is travelling ‘circus’ operation that claims excellent support - think that will be enough. I was informed by the previous owner that they have been unhelpful. I can say that I contacted them and would have expected better of them. They want the reg number and vin and payment to provide an original file - that they should have held anyway following the retune.

I had a look at Empire Tuning site but couldn’t see the base files in the browse I did. Can you say where they are located?

Found the files thank you on the Nanocom section of the site. Fantastic support from Empire.

Strange not to mention who it is

Empires based in Essex but have agents over the UK for support.

Was it the bloke who drives around doing them, who USED to have a good reputation then sort of disappeared?

I think that is correct.

I was looking at my Nanocom and their site last night and found that you can build the base Map files for various vehicles and countries. So there available from various sources.
Happy days !
Now I wonder if there is tuning tool out there?

If so.

No idea what happened but they were good remaps, then went down the pan.

As to wiping it, depends, if about 5 years ago or older, should be fine.

Probably because they are simple/basic maps that never evolved as times moved on.

So much has changed in the last 10 years its crazy. 250hp was unheard of and 300 was laughable but the norm now!

I may go s2 if i can get hold of a v8 tc, but chassis comes first
