Hope this makes sense, a friend is restoring a series 2 and has asked me how the copper brake pipes are attached to the drums? He says there is a nut on the drum that the pipe goes into, but he had to saw through the pipe and can't get the nut off. He wondered if it is just a compression type attachment?

If he's restoring it, he'll probably be putting new wheel cylinders on anyway, so the fact he's cut the old pipe off isn't a big deal.

They're totally normal pipe flares and unions. A roll of (cupro-nickel, not copper - copper work-hardens) pipe, a flaring tool, and a bag of unions is all that's required.

One of my local accessory shops makes them up for you while you wait. He is very good apparently although I havnt used him yet.

Im sure he only does copper though.
