Hi all, please could anyone help with this problem. The cooling system fan isnt kicking in during hot weather or whilst under load. The temp gauge is reading high but no fans, also Air con fan not working. Could anyone help on curing our 1999 L series 2 Ltr. diesel we purchased the Freelander during the winter months so never needed to test or try them. Any advice much appreciated.

:welcome2:

You could start by checking fuses 2, 3 and 7 in the engine compartment fuse box.

Thankyou chaser for your reply. I have now checked small and large fuses and all seem to be clean and complete

I think there are two temperature sensors in the coolant outlet elbow on the L series the one with 2 wires is for the fans. I'm not certain but you could try removing the connection when the engine is running and see if the fans kick in. If they do it would prove the fans and relay are OK and suggest the sensor is at fault. Alternatively removing the connection from the sensor on the top of the AC receiver/drier (passenger side of engine bay) should bring the fans on.

Unfortunately I have a TD4 so can't try this before posting but maybe someone else with an L series will confirm.

Id like to test the relay switches. But dont know where they are. PAYNES manual says theyre in the engine bay. yeah and so are a couple of others. do you know which relays take care of the cooling, and their location . many gratitudes

'Rave' shows the location as adjacent to battery mounted vertically on a steel plate. described as relay module R190 and containing 4 relays. The two multi-plugs are blue with 12 cables connected.

Thank you all for your time, but i got my father in law to bypass any electrical faults running a cable live to the motor via a fuse, job done. This doesnt cure the problem but a quick fix. my partner is so pleased with the response we have recieved reguarding our problem that she has asked me to pose this one to you all. Once arming or disarming the security we got indicator flashes, whilst tryin to sort the fan problem i disconnected the battery to clean a couple of earths, since then we have had no arming indicator lights is this normal or not? How do i re-arm the system ?

i disconnected battery since then the lights dont flash when arming or disarming freelander any sugestions most welcome.
and any suggestions on extention peddle for clutch as my wife has difficulty reaching this peddle.
