Two quick questions on the cooling system if I may.

Firstly, when running the engine on my 1977 SWB 2.25 petrol for a long-ish period of time (more than 20 minutes) for the first time since I've had him, the radiator cap dripped vert hot water out of a the metal tube thing (I'm a bit new to some of this). Is this normal? I read somewhere that some land rovers have expansion tanks but mine doesn't appear to. Should it have one?

Secondly, despite being the top hose being vert hot indeed, the bottom one wasn't. A parallel thread appears to say this is normal. Can someone confirm please? I was going to overhaul the cooling system to check for blockages but if it's normal then I'll tackle more pressing tasks.

Many thanks.

oh look!

The whole idea of having a radiator is to take in HOT water at one end, and send out COOL water at the other end, all under the control of the thermostat.

Else the engine goes red hot and melts.

Yup mine is still there - checked today. Local scrappy should be able to sort you out. Failing that a length of hose and a small plastic bottle should be fine in the short term.

I would also have a good look at your rad cap though as the spring will weaken and reduce the effectivenes of the whole system. They only cost a couple of quid new.
