Hi - I've read a couple of other threads on this forum about coolant sensors and just want to run my symptoms past you lot to see if you think the sensor being faulty is the likely cause

My 3.9 Disco runs awful when cold, stalling and barely enough power to get it a slope but when she gets up to temperature she runs alright (not perfect and a but lumpy on tickover) - i have checked the sparkplugs and they are now very black and need replacing.

Do you think it is likely to be a coolant sensor and is it an easy job?

on a seperate note, has any one else nearly crapped themselves if a disco stalls and you instantly lose power steering and servo assisted brakes!!!!

Cheers

I believe that it's the other way round with the Efi coolent temp sensor, ok cold but probs when the engine gets to temp, also there's no half way when it fails ie running ok but a poor tick over.
If u are going to change it, it's just behind the dizzi it has a black base, easy to replace although u will loose some coolent.
Have you checked the air filter is clean and the crankcase breather and pipe is clear.

Thanks for the reply - my friend has just come round with some diagnostic kit and the readings from the ECU seem very screwy not only is it collant eg -20c but it thinks the revs are 8,000 when idleying etc.

as things like the ABS ECU were sensible readings i am wondering if it is the engine ecu gone up the swanny
