Hi, Im new to the site after purchasing my first ever land rover, "L reg 200 tdi auto" When I first start it up there is a continual drip of water coming from what appears to be a large plate behhind the water pump, after 2 or 3 minutes of running the dripping stops, Any ideas, of the problem and how to fix it, is this a usual thing for a land rover???

Also the temperature gauge sits just below half way on a 60 mile run, is this usual? where is the max water mark on the header tank? My header tank is about half full.

Not being used to the land rovers I took the cap of the header tank to check the water levels as the car was running (stupid I know) but it appeared to bubble up, I take it that its pressurised, even though it only has a plastic cap and not a pressure cap as seen on many cars?

Hope you understand this and are able to help in my hour of need.

Jason

keep your eye on the water level, guage and carry a bottle in the back 'till you sort it.
It sounds like the P gasket is leaking. Have you tried simply nippng up the bolts?

Time to familiarise yourself with your new purchase and give the cooling an overhaul!

If it's not overheating then chances are the pump is ok, you could take it off and replace the gasket and chuck in a new thermostat for good measure.

Water level should be about half way up the tank, yes it's pressurised but excessive bubbling maybe a head gasket issue... check inside your oil cap for mayonaise

Run it up and take some photo's if you want a better answer to your question

Thank you for your reply!!!!! I took the Landy out today, 125 mile round trip, and was impressed, it didnt overheat, the temperature remained steady between quarter and half, although on initial starting i still have a leak from the large plate behind the water pump? but yet the water in the header tank didnt appear to have fluctuated dramatically. Checked the header tank and no creamy white stff to be seen???????????

I will try and upload a picture shortly, but will addadditions as time goes by
