Coolant over-temp ?

Hi All

Just got my first landy ! 04 plate XEi

I have a coolant issue as follows.

Temp rises ok to mid reading then after about 4-5 miles is instantly jumps to the red (light comes on)

Coolant is flowing ok and fans are running

Is this a dodgy sensor? The fact that it jumps instantly is a puzzle to me

Any ideas very welcome

I would think it would be sensor if it jumps that quick but could be a sticking thermostat

When I got mine I had the same problem.

The temp gauge will jump into the red and stay there even when the engine is cold.

After lots of digging found it to be the connection on the back of the instrument panel.

If you hit the top of the panel hard it should reset the connector.

Mine has a mind of its own, jumping into the rad then jumping back to normal.

I took the panel out and tried to re-seat the connector but didn't make any difference.
Living with it just now until I take the panel out and get the connector off and cleaned.
