I've put the new thermostat in, haven't run it yet but hows the best way to test the old thermostat (in the housing) ?

In a small pan on the gas hob , with a thermometer if you have one , otherwise you will need to guess temp before it boils but you should see the thermostat clearly open and then close again as temp drops
