But the point I'm making is that some people are so insensitive to the wants and needs of their vehicle that they don't feel or recognise things becoming useless under their feet - and we are also de-skilling by automating everything and separating people from the machine with supervisory electronics, so now my sister and others assume that everything is perfect because no warning lights have appeared.

I, on the other hand, assume that a con-rod is going to appear though the engine block at any moment. Paranoid and hypervigilant.

You're right about the de-skilling, it's happening in many areas of life, quite scary IMO.

I work in industrial automation - it's obvious now that the logic is to have production, insofar as is possible, in the absence of labour, and where labour is absolutely necessary it must be as generic, replaceable and powerless as possible.
Any discussion of whether this is ethical is absolutely haram.

Mind you, great British labour built my P38 .... bring on the robots!

I used to design and manufacture micro controllers for hot film plastic printing machines that were air powered, once the machine was set up, they could be operated by a trained monkey
