hi there i have a range rover p38 4.6 v8 which is leaking coolant over the gearbox after exploring all options, decided to replace the head gasket, the engine was rebuilt in 2007 weve just started taking the inlet manifold off to find that all the bolts were loose. is this the problem we could not find any other signs of head gasket fault just water laking at the back of the engine

you could try torqueing the bolts down and see what happens.

you will need to seal the valley gasket, a new one is best but some sealant in a tube will do for test purposes. dont forget there will be water in the oil too. check it. if its not too bad try it and see if water leaks, if it doesnt then replace valley and oil/filter

thanks for the replys were trying to change the velly gasket how do you get it to line up properly both old and new dont fit both sides properly

you have to push bolts in,4 , 1 on each corner, jiggle a little, leave a gap between the manifold and engine and basically ferk around. you will get it in eventually.

it all has to go down evenly.

a couple of the holes are elongated/cut out i think!
