Hello good people,
This morning I noticed a heavy coolant leak when I parked up. I topped up 2 litres in the expansion tank, drove home and took a look underneath. The alternator side of the engine was very wet so I couldn't see the source of the leak the turbo side seems dry. I've recently replaced the water pump and the seal seems sound.

Are there any common areas to check on a 2000(W) TD5 110?

There's a red stain in this pic - could this point to the source?

Thanks in advance.
Rich.

TD5's have an oil cooler on passenger side of engine and a fuel cooler on drivers side, some (later) models also have an exhaust gas cooler before EGR at front of engine. These can leak.

Check the small bore pipe work to and from the cooler as well, and pipes from and to the header tank for leaks, may only leak under pressure.

Yes, will do. I've wiped everything down with a rag so hopefully the source will show itself.

Thanks for responding so quickly scooby, you are awesome.

The anti-freeze was red in the bowl that I caught the drips in (I had a garage change the water pump last year). But that doesn't mean it has always had the right concentration of Anti-freeze in it so it may have experienced some corrosion.
