Hi All,

Looking to get any info / thoughts etc. if available.

This morning it smelt like hot coolant from my D2 TD5, when I checked it after work I have a low level of coolant. I could not see any obvious leaks in the engine bay. had to add enough coolant raise the coolant level about 1 inch.

After the 3 mile drive home, the coolant level had not dropped by any significant amount, but I could see coolant on the under engine crossmember very slowly dripping.

So, has does anyone know of any areas that "normally" fail around the rear of the engine bay? ( pipework?, heater connections? unions?) I am going to have a look on the weekend when I can get it on ramps in the daylight to see if there are any obvious pipes leaking etc. But are there any "hidden" areas where these leaks arise I should be wary of?

Cheers

This is the coolant plumbing ; check these and unions first ...

otherwise it maybe an engine based leak ...

Some late TD5s have a slightly different layout;
Euro3 layout is slightly different to pre-Euro3 which is shown in the small box at the bottom of above pic ...

Just had a look on Rave for you there is a core plug on cyl head bulkhead end
And some coolant pipes as well i think

Thanks All,

Just ordered some UV dye if it gets hard to find. Once I get a chance to look I will let you know what I find.
Fingers crossed it will be nice and easy, LOL. ( living in hope :D )

Cheers.

Sorry for previous message have told you wrong, there is no core plug on rear of cyl head.
I had look at engine on bench today its a plastic cover over camshaft

2 things sping to mind - the inlet/outlet pipes for the heater matrix at the rear of the cylinder head and there is a plug behind the exhaust manifold which can be difficult to see.
HTH,
Good hunting, Griff
