I have been trying to find the heater to locate the coolant leak. I have a manual for the 1995 Classic and up. I have my garage full of the parts I have removed following the step by step procedure in the manual and still no heater in sight.

The current concern is the removal of the windscreen wiper motor and linkage. The manual says to remove them but not how. Do I need to remove the body panel between the bonnet and the windscreen? If so it looks like the bonnet also has to be removed because the bonnet hinges go through holes in that body panel.

Also, the manual does not mention removal of the instrument cluster. Does it come out with the facia or does the manual miss a step?

This beast has a soft dash with SRS system. Is the dash pretty sturdy or require careful handling (if I ever get to the removal step).

Any advice?

I suggest you download a copy of RAVE from The Green Oval - Home which gives the procedures.

See the sections on:-
* Heating and Ventilation
* Chassis & Body / Repair / Dash Panel Assembly
* Wipers and Washers / Windscreen Wiper Motor, Linkage and Wheel Boxes

Yes, the bonnet and decker panel do need to come off to get at the wiper assembly

no clue about soft dash stuff but to get the wiper motor out you do need to take off the scuttle panel between the bonnet and windscreen.

two bolts either side on top of the wings, you need small hands.

bonnet is easy to get off , just two boltson either hinge but I would mark where the heads with typex and count the number of shims so it lines up again when you put it back. eaises with two guys for the lift but it is really easy!

Ever have one of those days when everything seems to turn to crap? On my way to the windscreen wiper motor, after removing the bonnet, I started removing the four bolts restraining the panel in front of the windscreen. The first three came out with no problem. The last, closest to the driver, LH side, did not feel right when I attempted to apply the spanner. I took a look back in there with a flashlight and found the bolt had not been snugged down because it was cross threaded and bent about 30 degrees from the verticle. I put some liquid wrench on it, carefully turned it with my fingers and it moved. After several turns it was evident ir was not comming out but only rorating in place. I wedged the panel up and used a hack saw blade to cut the bolt about 1/4 inch above the spacer. I then held the threaded portion of the captive nut, through the spacer and spun the bolt right on out. Then things went south. The threaded portion of the captive nut fell into the wing leaving the spacer free on top of the wing. See the picture.

Is there such a thing as an after market replacement for this captive nut assembly? If not, I guess I could come up through the wing with a bolt and make that corner a stud. By the way, there are 11 large sheet metal screws to remove before that panel comes out.

That was just the start. After removing the wiper motor and linkage there was not a multiplug to disconnect to facilitate the soft dash removal as directed by the shop manual. I had my wife jiggle the cable from the motor and found the multiplug under the dash above and right of the accelorator pedal. I wonder if the technical writer ever saw a RR?

Then it started to rain. Had to scramble to set the bonnet back in place, wiper motor back in place and cover the fresh air vent with plastic and duct tape. There was not a cloud in site when I started.

I am trying again to get at the files in Rave. So far cannot open them because of some unspecified encription that Acrobat Reader 9.2 does not recognize. I have tried several other PDF readers with the same results. Still trying.

The system will not allow attachments at this time.
